Less and more than expected By Gavin Bland
Heavy snow fell in early January and the weather in Sheffield was good. There was one freight working across the Hope Valley and arriving 30 minutes before it was booked Bamford was shrouded in fog. Sadly all services were suspended due to frozen points around Sheffield, however this allowed time for the fog to burn off leaving spectacular conditions. The driver of 66025 offered a friendly toot as he passed beneath the road overbridge to Thornhill while working 6D12 11:18 Peak Forest Up Sidings to Toton TMD. The short load suggesting a cripple movement opposed to an actual freight carrying train.

When i was a kid this kind of think was bread and butter stuff that i took for granted. Class 52s on westcountry expresses emptying hundreds of passengers on a summer Saturday all heading for the beach. Teignmouth just seemed alive in those days unlike the sleepy seaside town it is now.
Just for a couple of minutes on the 10th May 2025 i had a chance to relive my youth, it was a chance to stand alongside a diesel hydraulic Western as she stopped at Teignmouth and listen to her power out of the station and into the cutting as she got her train underway. Well i did it and it was epic.

Peak practice By Gavin Bland
The morning of May 26th saw 45118 heading south down the Midland Mainline creating memories of old running from Leeds to St Pancras, in glorious sunshine. Her return is good weather was a promising sunset view. By the evening the weather had changed offering an alternative opportunity, I nearly did not take due to the heavy rain and rapidly approaching darkness. The station shot was considered to be the best with damp platforms and lighting. 45118 sits at Sheffield awaiting time before heading north.

An early morning start and sunrise at Lichfield Trent Valley didn't produce the images initially envisaged.
